Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international Christian relief and evangelism organization.  It is also the largest Christmas project of its kind that uses simple gift-filled shoe boxes to let hurting boys and girls know that they are loved and not forgotten.  Operation Christmas Child began in the U.S. in 1993 with 28,000 shoe box gifts; since then, it has collected and hand-delivered more than 100 million shoe box gifts to underprivileged children who suffer from poverty, war, famine, disease and natural disaster in more than 130 countries.  Operation Christmas Child will use any creative method possible to deliver shoe box gifts aside from the traditional methods.  Gifts have been transported by canoes, elephants, dog sleds, donkeys, horses and camels.  Children in the snowbound Himalayas to the war town streets of Baghdad, will realize the power of a simple gift that brings joy and hope.
